Wesak is the most important of the Buddhist festivals and is celebrated on the full moon in May.

It celebrates the Buddha's birthday, and, for some Buddhists, also marks his birth, enlightenment, and death.

In Penang during the festival, Buddhists will visit our local temples for services and teaching, and will give offerings to the monks of vegatarian food, candles and flowers.

More than 10,000 pilgrims from 35 Buddhist associations are expected to throng Burma Road to take part in Wesak Day procession.

The float and candle light procession normally will cover 7km distance. It will start from the Malaysia Buddhist Association in Burma Road and proceed to Jalan Pangkor, Jalan Kelawei, Lorong Burmah, Jalan Burmah, Peel Avenue, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Anson, Lorong Madras before returning to Burma Road.
