Observed by Buddhists and Taoists, Wesak Day marks the Buddha's birthday, enlightenment and passing. The occasion is celebrated with chanting and prayers at the many Buddhist temples dotting the state. Free vegetarian meals are served at most temples and devotees are encouraged to participate in acts of charity such as making offerings of food to monks and donations for the poor and underprivileged.

The Penang Bridge, at 13.5km, is one of the world's longest bridge. Since Sept 1985, more than 130,000 vehicles ply across the Penang Bridge daily and this monumental bridge is only closed to traffic once a year for only ONE occasion.......The Penang Bridge International Marathon!

 The Federation of Malaya Orchid Society(FOMOS) is organizing an Orchid Road Show to coincide with the Penang Floral Festival, which will be held from 31st May till 7th June. This event is held to attract both local as well as foreign tourists to Penang, and at the same time, to promote Penang as an orchid growing state. It is also to make it known to everyone that contrary to popular believe, orchid growing is actually very easy. The FOMOS Orchid Road Show will take place at Sunway Carnival Mall from 14th till 22nd March. 

  At the road show, you will come across the breathtaking display of over 300 orchids of 35 species which will be showcase by experienced and dedicated orchid growers from all over Malaysia. Varieties of orchids and related accessories will be available for purchase from renowned orchid vendors.  

  Thoughout the 9-day road show, visitors will have the opportunity to have a closer look at orchid species as well as orchid hybrids. They are able to take this opportunity to interact with the growers, to purchase orchids and related items, and to immerse in the splendor of orchids. 

  FOMOS was registered as a society on 31st October 1958 in Penang and was formed by a group of orchid enthusiasts and associations of orchid collectors throughout the Pearl of Orient (state of Penang), thus the oldest orchid society in Malaya (Malaysia) was formed.

  Their objective is to stimulate knowledge, science and practice of orchid culture (cultivation). It is greatly hoped that knowledge sharing among enthusiastic members, growers and hobbyists will serve to bring enhance global appreciation of orchids to mankind.
